Snow forces Watford-Saints postponement

Watford`s relegation 6-pointer with Southampton at Vicarage Road this saturday has already fallen foul of the weather with snow forcing the crunch clash to be postponed.

Sussex ref Clive Penton didn`t even need to get his keys out to test for a frozen pitch after Watford deemed the whole of the 3-sided Vicarage Road stadium to be unfit for football.

Amid safety fears for players and fans alike, Watford head of operations (and thoroughly nice bloke to boot) Paddy Flavin showed off the club`s caring sharing side, stating "We have a social responsibility to make the decision earlier rather than later - and tomorrow would have been too late.".

He added "We`d made great efforts to make sure the pitch was in good condition for the game tomorrow, and sadly it would have been, but with freezing temperatures forecast for this area overnight, and specifically a forecast of minus four degrees at 6am tomorrow morning".

There were also major concerns that due to the transportation chaos caused by the heavy snowfall that the club would not be able to ensure that the required levels of medical staff such as the St Johns Ambulance were present for matchday.

That in a nutshell is the club`s position.

Paddy Flavin added "Clearly we`re as upset as any of our fans would be as the manager and the team were very much looking forward to the fixture, but as a club we will never compromise safety under any circumstances."

…which in truth is very good to hear.

Having known Paddy for agood few years, he does tell it how he sees it, so fair play, only had one dissagrement with him and that was when they allowed the Scum fans out first and the home fans had to wait!! only at Watford FC

Shame this one didn't get the go-ahead as I was looking forward to it! Our boys are in desperate need of a win to give ourselves a fighting chance of survival, especially considering how tight it is down at the bottom. Still can't believe we allowed Rasiak to join a relegation rival on loan either. How is he getting on at your place by the way? And how do you rate Jack Cork? Saints' fans were very unhappy when he left us as he was arguably our best player during the first half of the season.

Rasiak is his usual self - lazy but with some sublime footwork. He has this habit of being in the right place at the right time and appears to love it at Watford now that he is back in favour with the gaffer. As for Cork - well he is too good for us!!!!

you'll not be the last to be laid up tomorrow!
