'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Big League' lure for Watford's Don

The Press and Journal might reckon Don Cowie was lured to Watford by "the bright lights and the big city…" but the midfielder insists it`s the chance to play in the 'Big League ' Championship that`s captured his imagination….

…and ok, he admits the improved wage packet is nice too!

Cowie swapped Highland life in the SPL for the hustle and bustle of Championship reality at Vicarage Road on Monday and insists "You only need to look at Wolves buying Christophe Berra for more than £2m to sum up how big a league the Championship is".

The £50k signing from Inverness Caledonian Thistle added "It is one of the best supported leagues in the world and there are so many big clubs in it - I have watched a lot of English football and it is definitely a place I thought I would like to give a try.'

"It will be hard because it is a very competitive league and it is also very tight".

And of his new employers at Vicarage Road, who are knee deep in trouble at the wrong end of those very tight conditions, Cowie stated " …as soon as I knew Watford wanted to sign me the prospect of going there was definitely something I wanted to achieve."

He added "I feel as though I can develop down here and if it means being better off financially that is a bonus."

Marlon was 500K, so not cheap and with his reputation a hell of a gamble, but we did make money so fair play. Ross Jenkins was a good buy from Palace, but then the money then might have seemed quite a lot.

Jack - My vote went for the black away kit and home kit with black shorts....

500k for a 20 goal a season striker is dirt cheap these days but people whove been inside or recovering alcoholics always seem to do well at watford were the footballing equivalent of the betty ford clinic
