Watford boss admits Smith interest

Cardiff City HAVE made tentative enquiries with Watford regarding the sale of playmaker Tommy Smith or so says Hornets boss Brendan Rodgers anyway.

Watford were quick to dismiss rumours on Thursday that the Bluebirds were in for Smith with a £1.6m bid and a club statement is right in that 'no formal bid has been received for the player` but Rodgers has told the press that Smith is a wanted man and that Cardiff have put the feelers out.

Rodgers stated "I think there was an enquiry but the club never had an official bid - It`s my first transfer window and there has been lots of speculation and lots of things in the last few days".

He added "The value and worth of Tommy is certainly more than £1.6m when you look at the fees of other players going around. It would need to be something very, very good for him and the club that takes him away from here."

Hmmm, sounds like a rallying call to start a bidding war to us here in VitalWatford Towers but Rodgers seems adamant he is desperate for his star man to stay, insisting "I`m keen to keep the group that is here…I`ll be happy when Tuesday comes"

he good news is Watford still have 1 or 2 new faces they want to bring in by Monday night`s deadline so it could be a busy (and nervous) 24 hours!
