Watford calm Smith sale fears

Watford have been quick to distance themselves from speculation linking fans favourite Tommy Smith with a £1.6m move to Championship rivals Cardiff.

Those naughty sports hacks at Sky Sports have been at the epicentre of a rumour that could send shockwaves through Hertfordshire, insisting that Smith was 'considering` the switch to Wales.

Now Watford have stepped in to put fans minds at rest, stressing through the W`Observer that they "are yet to receive any offers" for the player.

Which is good news as £1.6m is an insult to the club - in today`s market, Smithy is worth £2.5m+ of anyone`s money…

Hornets playmaker Smith is said to have already turned down a summer approach from Stoke whilst Reading, Derby, Blackburn and Hull have all been linked with the player in the last few months.

This doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, the statement "Yet to receive any offers" could mean "Why don't you make one and we'll think about it". We must keep Tommy!
