'If It's Football, It's Vital'

'Abysmal' defending blasted at Watford

Watford might have the worst defensive record in the whole Championship - if not the whole country - but it was Owen Coyle who ripped into his side`s defenders at Vicarage Road last night.

The Burnley boss was fuming after seeing his claret and blue backline concede '3 soft goals` and insisted "I could probably go in myself at 42 and defend better than that - it`s not on!".

Coyle, who also let rip at half time at a lack of effort, slammed "We defended abysmally...I am not going to stand by and watch that defending week in and week out.'

He added "I wouldn`t expect to see that on a playground."

Sadly there was no acknowledgement that both Rasiak and Hoskins were a right ol` handful all night long for Clarke Carlisle and co nor that Priskin`s brace was notched up with 2 splendid finishes on the end of two excellent moves.

And of Jobi McAnaff`s 2nd minute opener, Coyle added "…you could have driven a double decker bus through the defence and even then their lad [Jobi] needed two attempts to put it in".

But the Braveheart Burnley boss also bleated "I can accept getting beat with a bit of quality but when it is self inflicted it leaves a bad taste in the mouth…."

Bad taste? That will be the 'sour grapes` then Owen!

Without Eagles, your team is very plain and i am being very nice about you.

Everything went through Eagles. It seemed as though all the other Burnley players had been instructed to get him on the ball at every occasion. Doyley did a marvellous job in shutting him out for long periods.

Not greatest showing ever but better... esp new boy Williamson & Cork....

It wasn't the greatest showing i agree, but when you are used to watching utter rubbish, going to the game, wondering if we will score and how many we will concede, to me, that win was special, because, i came out of the game feeling happy and for once in a long time
