'If It's Football, It's Vital'

W'Ham pair head Hornets hit parade

Watford have made enquiries about taking W`Ham pair Freddie Sears and James Tomkins on loan - according to the News of the World - but the Hammers are expected to turn down any further approaches.

Tomkins is certainly a player who is bound to have caught the eye of Hornets boss Brendan Rodgers as the new Watford gaffer seeks to reinforce his leaky defence.

The 19 year old Basildon born 6ft3 centre back has just returned from a 1 month spell on loan at Derby where he impressed in the rough and tumble of the Championship during a 5 match run.

But with Matthew Upson seemingly on his way - as the credit crunch strikes in the East End - Zola is keen to keep hold of his young defender, who made his first W`Ham start of the season in the 3-0 FA Cup win over Barnsley.

Elsewhere, and it`s a similar story with Freddie Sears. The 19 year old hotshot has turned out 19 times for the Hammers so far this season and approaches from Coventry are rumoured (in tabloid-land) to have had an enquiry turned away.

Sears would be the striker 'who can change a game` that Rodgers desperately wants but his future at Upton Park looks watertight after signing a new deal just last month.
