Hornets appoint Rodgers into hotseat

Hornets appoint Rodgers into hotseat

Watford chairman Graham Simpson has stood by his commitment to providing opportunities for young, hungry English managers by appointing Chelsea reserve team boss Brendan Rodgers into the Vicarage Road hotseat.

Rodgers, who had his playing days at Reading cut short by injury, has been fast tracked through the ranks at Stamford Bridge after experiencing massive success with the youth team set-up.

The new man in the Hornets hotseat has already surrounded himself with experience with W`Ham legend Frank Lampard senior joining Watford as a footballing consultant.

Southend reserve team chief (and former Spurs full back) Dean Austin has also been appointed to the Hornets new look backroom staff.

Rodgers makes his first team managerial debut at home to Doncaster on Saturday and his appointment sparks an end to weeks of mindless speculation here at VitalWatford.

Quite a shock that one, but I hope it works out for him. We need more young talent in managerial hot-seats.

Shame that we lost him, very talented coach. Good luck though and hopefully we'll see you soon at the bridge.

A real shock, i wonder if he has been told he has to sell players in jan and that he has no money to spend, unless of course, chairman Mao decides to an alister darling and has a plan C?

Interesting to see Simpson wheel out the 'no comment' when pushed by Sky Sports as to whether Rodgers would need to shed the playing staff to balance the books...

Doc, I am sure he will have to offload players, but will it be to balance the books as they stand or just to bring new players in? Perhaps Simpson has put something aside in anticipation of the post-Aidy era? However Buck will do well to match Aidy's buys that first season, Marlon, Spring, Hendo, Carlisle, Foster on loan, Malky.... Not to mention Jordan Stewart!!

The special one apparently gave a strong letter of recommendation for Rodgers. If thats true things should start to look up for Watford.

RFB, just a quick note, Simpson can not put "money aside" it is not his to do with, although, he might need telling that, he certainly needs asking where all the money has gone and a flippant remark that it all went on players wages, just does not add up. Indeed, if he has been putting money to one side, than i am sure the FSA and the Police would take a good look at that because it would be theft or embezlement, i hink.

No I wasn't suggesting he was hiding it under his mattress, although maybe that's not a bad shout considering the huge sums that have gone down the drain. I was thinking more that he must be able to free up funds for Buck & Co whereas they were't available to Aidy. We'll see... Good point last night though.
