'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Goodbye Yellow brick road says Elton

Watford`s most famous fan - Elton John (no, not Geri Halliwell you fools) has turned his back on his beloved Hornets after quitting his role as Life President of the club.

Dear Reg - who shed a tear as Watford went down to Everton in the 1984 FA Cup Final at the old Wembley - handed in his notice in writing to chairman Graham Simpson, before insisting he will remain in love with things yellow.

On his official website at www.eltonjohn.com, a short and sweet announcement simply read "Elton wishes the team every success in the future. However, in the light of developments over the past few months, he feels he cannot remain in any formal position within the Club".

Elton recently publicly criticized the current regime at Vicarage Road and questioned the board`s grasp of all things financial and it was hoped, by many fans, that he would dip into his own fortune to assist his boyhood club in these troubled times.

The resignation of the Rocketman is another kick in the teeth for an increasingly under fire Watford board as they start their search for a new manager and fresh investment from new buyers.

So at a time when the Watford faithful are just coming to terms with a mass exodus of key players and the surprise removal of Aidy Boothroyd, there`s yet another unexpected sting in the tail for us Hornets to bear.

You could say we've been getting a 'bum deal' of late...but we wouldn't be that crude.

I don't think the fans should take this as personal, at least Elton put his money where his mouth is and invested in our club, yes sure, most of us are season ticket holders and shareholders, thats where we have shown investment. I think he, like a lot of us is just so *****ed off with the arrogance of the current board, that he has done somthing about it. The only things we could do is boycott the club, which i would not do, or storm the directors box, but being as it is now in the Rous, it would be harder than the last time.

I think Elton is just making his position very clear that he wants nothing to do with the present regime (or the Russo's I'd guess), Hopefully his stand will increase the pressure ahead of the EGM/AGM, although judging from Simpson's smug sky sports interview following Aidy's departure I doubt it. Perhaps Elton may return at a future date and be part of a solution???

Got my voting papers through the door to day, not that it will make much difference, but the one question on the ballet paper is " To resolve a vote of no confidence in the Board and a demand for their immediate resignation" think i will be voting in favour
