Aidy Boothroyd might insist that John-Joe O`Toole "drives him mad at times" but the Watford chief has revealed he considers the Irish U21 midfielder as the Hornets "secret weapon".
JJ only turned 20 last month but has already picked up that happy habit of scoring goals from midfield at a rate of 1 every 3 games in his short career. He`s even notched up 6 in 10 so far this season despite coming back from preseason 'out of shape` - well, according to the gaffer anyway.
Speaking after seeing O`Toole chalk up another strike in the 2-2 draw with Cardiff, Boothroyd heaped praise on the youngster. He beamed "He has a great eye for goal. He`s growing into his role as a midfield player and is a lot better with his decision making".
Boothroyd added "He`s always going to score goals because he`s got that natural gift of timing to get in the box. Whether you can coach that or not I don`t know but he seems to love scoring goals".
No surprise then the Premier League circus that is Newcastle are supposedly keeping a keen eye on the shaggy haired irish rogue …if you believe everything you read on the web.
Is JJ the new Allan Nielson? Could O`Toole add more to his game than just goals?
