Watford should concentrate on the Championship`s also-rans and stop bothering themselves with the so called big clubs in the promotion hunt…

…well, that`s the view of Hornets chief Aidy Boothroyd anyway!

The Hornets hover just above the League 1 trapdoor to footballing wilderness despite picking up 3 points against Preston, playing Ipswich off the park, adding more woe to W`Ham`s cause in the Carling Cup and getting all the plaudits after being robbed in the 2-1 draw with free-scoring Reading.

But Aidy Boothroyd is keen to get his 'big game Charlies` performing in the crunch 3 pointers at the other end of the table.

The Hornets chief insisted "We`re used to looking at Wolves and Birmingham at the top of the table but now we`ve looking at what Southampton and Barnsley are doing because that is where we are now".

No question it`s the right approach for Boothroyd - last season the Hornets did the league double over Wolves, beat Cardiff away and stuck it right up Sheffield United…

But then lost TWICE to Barnsley, were well beaten at home by relegated Scunnie and dropped points to Blackpool.

So no wonder Boothroyd added "When we do play those teams, we have to take something out of it so the game at Southampton after the break is huge".

And with Swansea, Barnsley, Doncaster and Blackpool all to come in November, Watford could well do with getting that 'big game` machine well truly oiled for a scrap.

From my perspective, we have already lost to 4 teams likely to be in the bottom half, (Forest, Sheff Wed, Plymouth, Burnley) so perhaps he has a point; but I think that this is more likely part of an ongoing battle behind the scenes to try and get some dosh out of Simpson..... Or face a long hard winter. Come on You Golden Boys!

I know what you are saying RFB as Aidy has done plenty of his internal bidding through the press of late. I however think that Burnley have got to be in with a shout for the play-offs. Forest look poor and Plymouth were lucky at best so maybe it's just to re-focus the players on the job in hand. We are better than people make out you know.

Hope you're right Doc, but if Aidy is forced to sell Tommy Smith & De Merit inJan we'll be in real trouble and he will have one hell of a job to keep spirits up. Still the form of Hoskins has been encouraging and I hope Rasiak will make a big impact shortly. However this still leaves the problems in defence. Come on You Golden Boys
