Play it again Sam: Watford sign Sodje

Watford chief Aidy Boothroyd has pulled off a right royal coup, picking up strapping centre-back Sam Sodje from Reading on a month`s loan deal.

The signing of Sodje, who 'possesses a great leap` (well according to a die hard Bees fan anyway) and has scored goals from central defense right through his career, bolsters an injury riddled defensive line-up at Vicarage Road but must raise doubts over the fitness of Captain America Jay DeMerit.

Sodje wracked up a century of games for Brentford after Martin Allen snapped him up from non league Margate (minutes after being handed a 6 match ban for punching an opponent) before Reading commited daylight robbery, signing him up for the price of a McDonalds Happy Meal (cut price £350k) .

Now in his final year at Reading, the Nigerian born defender has been told "it would be in his best interests to move on" by Steve Coppell, after spending last season on loan at Charlton and being left out of a Pre-Season tour to Sweden - a situation that Sodje has dubbed "a joke"!

VitalWatford can`t help but think this a strong signing by the Watford boss but can`t help but think that it would be 'Sod`s Law' if Jay DeMerit`s hamstring is worse than the club are letting on…

A good signing, but yes, it is more than worrying that we've had to move for a centre back after Jay was ok?!

like i said earlier, according to one of the first team players, jay is struggling to be fit, normally, a hand string pull even slight, is not gonna repair if a few days!

A good move by Boothroyd. We need a 3rd centre back for sure and he's available and is experienced at this level. Not sure why he's fallen from grace at Reading but he'll be up for the challenge. Come on You Golden Boys!

Straight into the side - DeMerit out with a thigh injury. Sadler and Liam Henderson make the bench after injuries...
