'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Skys the limit for Watford target

Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd`s fears that "we might lose Ulises De La Cruz" could be about to come true after the free agent Equadorian joined Coventry City on trial.

The Hornets chief admitted last month that he "didn`t have the budget" to sign the former Aston Villa and Reading right back despite watching him play in all of Watford`s 3 pre-season friendlies against league opposition.

Now it seems Sky Blues'boss Chris Coleman is eyeing up the aging legs of the classy South American international defender as a potential answer to his right back problem at the Ricoh Arena.

De La Cruz has already seen a trial spell at Birmingham come to nothing and Ipswich cool their interest in his signature after he left the Hornets training ground.

But the Hornets chief has remained philosophical, stating "if something comes up then I accept he`s got to go".

Though it does force the bigger question to be asked - Yes, we are cash strapped but if we can`t afford him how can a side well known to be riddled by debt even consider taking him on?

I thought this was a dead deal for us, but as far as Cov are concerned, I guess it's not the debt that is the issue, it's the wilingness of the board to dig deep and arrange further funding.

Its not just Cov - Saints, Narwich and Charlton are all financially strapped for cash but still in the market for players... It just seems to me like the Hornets board have asset stripped. That's very different to the rest of the clubs in the Championship who throw money about left right and centre.

As a well known Journalist told me, "the board spunked the money" and now thay have none! Simpson is a complete and utter To!!!!, in my eyes, no plan b. except asset strip, sell and get out, well i wish he would just hurry up and go fourth and multiply.

I see Francis is being linked with a loan move to Ipswich, now they do have the money but what about their excellent youth system? There's Campo, Thatcher, Voltz and .....

From what I have seen Portman Road could become a hot bed for aging players on large salaries...Magilton is under pressure for big names and big signings by the fans. Their youth scheme has lacked investment since the heady early 2000s...
