Aidy would gamble on a Watford win

The VitalWatford boys hope that Aidy Boothroyd has been practising his poker face in the dressing room mirror after the Hornets boss insisted he`d rather "take a risk than draw".

Gamble 1 point against the odds of either 3 or nothing in a league as tight as the Watford board? Is the Watford chief mad?

Apparently not. A worldly wise Boothroyd told the Watford Observer "My thoughts are that from past experience here it is better [to go for] the win than take the draw. We had a 13-game unbeaten run and drew 8 - I would rather have lost 5 and won 8".

Let`s be honest, it`s a risky strategy, especially in the highly competitive dog-eat-dog world of the Championship, but Boothroyd is well aware that the stakes are high.

The Watford boss added "I think on occasions last year when we went to win the game teams counter-attacked us… If substitutes come on and they don`t work out then you don`t know what you`re doing, you`re foolish. But it they do work then you`re a genius".

Aidy was clearly a tactical genius then against Ipswich, playing John-Joe O`Toole as his trump card ('joker` is a bit harsh - ed) at just the right moment.

Let`s just hope the Hornets don`t reveal their hand too early this season though…

I'm all for going all out for the win, this is what got us promoted in 2005/6, but we also have to respond to changes made by the other team, clearly Aidy won the tactical battle hands down last weekend but needs to play his cards according to the situation. Come on You Golden Boys - we can get a win on Saturday and move into top 6!

I think his hands are tied and he goes to go with the cards he has been dealt. The players must stick together and the maybe, we will be ok!

Yes he's doing a great job under very difficult circumstances, he's obviously learned a lot from his experience last season about handling players and deserves to be given more support from the board, but that is not likely to happen with the current regime who backed him last year. Once bitten and all that......

I do feel for AB - Simpson obviously wants promotion based on team spirit but we are short of quality in key areas and that issue lays firmly at the feet of the board. Remember someone had to sanction ABs request for the cheques to sign John, Ellington, Hoskins, Sietes etc...
DrWatford
stability is key, AB needs backing and giving time, all the best clubs have success when keeping the same manager year after year!! A new owner is needed, not a new manager!
