Bamba regret at Watford snub

Ivory Coast centre back Sol Bamba joined SPL 'big side` Hibernian in a cut price deadline day deal but insisted afterwards that he`s "very disappointed" not to be joining Watford.

The giant defender told The Scotsman "I was very disappointed when I came back from China and Watford said that they were not going to take me. But that is all behind me now and I am just looking forward to getting started with Hibs".

And ex-Pars teammate Stephen Glass, who notched up 60 appearances for Watford after joining from Newcastle some 7 years ago, reckons that Hibs have grabbed themselves a bargain - proved by the fact that the Hornets were so so close to signing the big stopper

The former Scottish International stated "I don`t know what happened [with Watford] but it appeared pretty much a done deal before Sol went to China. But even the fact it even got so far down the line a club which has aspirations to return to the Premier League down there shows Hibs are getting a quality player".

With Hibs snapping up Sol for £50k (some £50k less than Watford were quoted to have offered), it appears then that both Bamba and the Dunfermline moneymen have lost out on this one.

Sounds like Bamba's a politician and is keeping his future options open. But why were we going to pay £50k more for the player?

It's a good question and maybe part of the reason we pulled out? I don't believe our non signing of Bamba was cash related - maybe cos he didn't impress in China

It has down to money all the way, A bad chairman who really did not have a plan B. Just that he does not have the balls to admit what really happend to the money!

I have seen Bamba play Andy and believe me is nowhere near Championship quality. Sure budget was a consideration but he wasn't worth £100k. Plenty of talk this morning that the Hornets might have to fight to keep Smith in the loan window now...

I fear this especially if we are not in the running for promotion (which is a big ask) will board the excuse - will be interesting to see if Tommy's form is affected in th enxt 4 months. What's his contractual situation? ie when is he out of contract?
RFB-gloryhornetboys
£100k a lot of money for a gamble on him imho. Time will tell how he does in SPL I guess

Fight to keep Smith? could understand that if it was Jan, but to go out on loan, this is a new dimension in to the finance of the club, do hope your wrong RFB, a real good start to my week, thanks boys lol
ANDY710
I never saw him play so can't comment on his ability. It's probably because we bought in GR that we just couldn't afford another player. Even if we do need cover at the back...

Tommy wants to stay at this football club, so he tells me... The question is does Aidy want him??? Once you fall out of favour you don't come back.... Which is sad... Aidy needs to be more flexible...

1881 Are you saying that smithy has fallen foul of aidy?
