'Bamba deal dead' say Watford

Watford have pulled out of the £150k deal to sign Dunfermline centre back Sol Bamba right at the last minute, despite waiting for the player to return from the Olympics to confirm the move is dead.

Hornets boss Aidy Bootroyd confirmed to the Watford Observer that the Ivory Coast would not be joining up at Vicarage Road, insisting "We won`t be taking him".

A lot of Watford fans saw the former Paris St Germain hot prospect as a ready made replacement for Bolton-bound Danny Shittu after he impressed in a pre-season friendly but have the Hornets been put off by what they saw of the defender in Bejing?

It appears mostly likely given that, despite Watford`s financial plight and pressures to reduce the wage bill, the "transfer was agreed and they [Watford] decided to pull the plug on it which is very disappointing"… according to Pars boss Jim McIntyre anyway!

It leaves Boothroyd`s squad thread bare at the back and many fans have question marks over the ability of Cedric Avinel, who for whatever reason continues to be touted as 'one for the future` at Vicarage Road.

I don't like this at all. This is not how we should conduct business, pulling the plug - having agreed the deal with club & player. However, If it means we can hang onto Tommy Smith, then so be it.

Don't belive it, if any club makes a bid for a player, i expect Chairman Mao to deliver the player to the club, I do not think i could stomach what happened with Paul Robinson being sold to WBA happening again! SO Chairman be warned!

I must admit this has been one of the worst summers, weather, reading about how Chariman Mao has wasted the money! the doom and gloom merchants, my ex-wife, Gordon Brown, the list is endless, but i was not really looking forward to the football, have not mist it! but i feel abit more optomistic, ok, so the club is *****ed, we know that and there is nothing us fans can do about that, but if the players go on the way they have started, i think we will be ok! Come on you horns,
