Are Watford banking on Reliable Lloyd?

He may not be the "footballing right back" that Aidy Boothroyd wants but it appears Reliable Lloyd Doyley is back in the good books with the gaffer and rightly so.

With the Ulises De La Cruz move seemingly 'on hold' and the ressies playing John Joe O'Toole at right back, Doyley has emerged again as as a key figure in the Hornets backline - despite being transfer listed in the summer.

It`s been an up and down 18 months for the rock steady full back with Aidy Boothroyd telling money bags QPR they "didn`t have enough money to buy Lloyd' last January but then put him up for sale 6 months later.

Now it seems Doyley has found a small spot in Aidy`s heart again. He was named as captain in the Carling Cup win over Bristol Rovers and the gaffer coo`ed "You know what you`re gonna get from Lloyd. If he plays like that every week I should make him captain more often".

And Lloyd himself is keen for his run in the team to continue, stating "I`ve been working hard during pre-season and tried to show the boss that I am good enough and he has repaid me by showing some faith by starting me in the last 3 games".

Sure he will always have his critics. Yes, his distribution is questionable and his form does tend to drop off after Christmas but give him a job to do defensively and he will show he`s the best man marker at the club.

Just ask Hameur Bouazza and Victor Moses who barely got a kick in the opening games.

After all, isn`t a defenders role in the team to defend? This overlapping, one touch passing lark is well overrated.

If some body offered some money for him, please take it, don't think we have had a quailt right back since Nigel Gibbs, although David Bardsley was quality, yes he can defend a decent attacker, but put quailty at him and he is finished, have never been able to work out, why AB played Marriappa in the premiership, but not in the championship!

Mariappa is decidedly average in my book and like Avinel doesn't cut it as centre back either. I see Lloyd as a much more reliable option at RB and he has the benefit that he can play in the centre too...Watch his awareness - He reads the game better than any other player at the club.

Ummm but Andy - Isn't Lloyds job to stop others hitting our barn door with their heads? I want my defenders to defend and I don't really care if they aren't that hot going forward.

Lloyd had a decent game on Saturday and is ok in the current circumstances where we cannot afford to bring new players in, he has been reliable in the past and can come good again. Always tries his heart out, we can accept his limitations as long as he eliminates the mistakes that littered his game in 2nd half of last season. Come On Lloyd, make the right back spot your own again!

I hope that every WFC player performs to their optimum, if they try their best, then fair play, we win more and the wife and cat can brief a sigh of relief as they don't have to put up with me moaning!

I wish people would get off Lloyds back... He is Watford through and through... His job is not to score but to defend... How many goals did Gibbs score??? Not that many... How many goals has Mariappa scored??? Or McNuff and he's a winger/forward... One or twoI think... Lloyd is the longest continues servant at the club. I think coz Jordon has gone the boo boyz need someone else to moan about... Lloyd plays probable the most difficult role in the team along with the left back... If he doesn't play well then leave him out but at the moment he has done nothing wrong... I would love him to score sometime but it's not his goal scoring record we are looking at... It's his tackles made and goals stopped we look for... Give him your support...

And now Aidy Boothroyd reckons Doyley "is terrific on the ball" too - It really does appear that Reliable Lloyd is back in favour at Vicarage Road.
