Team of the Week slot for Poom

Quite how Watford keeper Mart Poom got named in the Championship Team of the Week, for his performance in the win over Charlton, we are not sure…but he has been.

After all, it was Poom`s opposite number, Addicks keeper Nicky Weaver picked up the man of the match award at Vicarage Road for an acrobatic showing that kept the 1-0 result from being a cricket score.

Even Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd reckoned the former Man City keeper was worthy of some hefty praise insisting "we dominated proceedings and, but for Nicky Weaver, we would have won by two or three."

But it appears those guys in the know at the Football League went for the experienced legs of Mr Poom despite him not really having a shot to save on Saturday.

Still, praise is praise and if it gives the Estonian stopper some extra confidence then bring it on.

The full Championship Team of the Week for weekend 16-17th August is:

Poom (Watford); McNaughton (Cardiff); Kilgallon (Sheff Utd); Sonko (Reading); Davidson (PNE); Esajas (Sheff Wed); McKenna (PNE); Howard (Barnsley); Trotter (Ipswich); Iwelumo (Wolves); Sharp (Sheff Utd)

Quite amazing since Charlton didn't manage a shot on target!

Should have been Richard Wright - as he made about 50 super saves and kept a clean sheet. Anyway, Liam Trotter got into the team.... so that kind of consoles me, even though the wrong keeper got into the team.

Poom can only play the players he is against... I do remember Poom making a couple of good saves which never got far enough for the forward to shoot... He dived at the guys feet to stop a certain goal on at least two occasions... In my view Poom is better all round than Lee... Keep him in goal...

Have to agree with 1881, Poom made one great save taking the ball from the guys feet! granted, he did not have much else to do after that. but what he did was keep a clean sheet! hope Lee stays injured for the season!
ANDY710
Oh no, just read that Lee came through 90 mins unscathed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aidy doesn't rate Lee (after his Hull error which cost us badly) and I cannot see him playing again for the firsts this season. Its Poom and Loach all the way for me. Rich is a nice guy but nice guys never win.

Thats good news DR, cause i do not rate him either but AB is the man who makes the calls, not me!
