Aidy to hold Hornet stars hostage
Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd plans to resort to desperate measures to keep key members of his squad in tact ahead of the transfer window slamming shut on 1st September.
The Hornets gaffer had no say in the sale of some of his prized assets (and Jordan Stewart) in the summer as the Watford board took action to balance the books.
Now it appears Boothroyd isn`t prepared to run the risk of flying frontman Tommy Smith being sold on after an impressive start to the season (and supposed interest from Reading).
On Smudger, Aidy stated "I might just have to kidnap him [Smith] if someone comes in for him because selling him would be completely the wrong thing to do".
The manager is also laying down plans to sabotage any moves for Jobi McAnuff and 'Captain America` Jay Demerit by cheekily suggesting he`d 'hide` any official bids, stating "If we do get that fax on the table then we have got a decision to make. If and when that happens, and I get it first, I`ll guess I`ll have to hide it".
But the gaffer knows the deadline for deals to be done is fast approaching, insisting "It`s a case of turning the lights off, locking the doors and getting to September [when the transfer window closes] as quick as well can."
So Aidy is back to his 'tongue in cheek` best but we wait to see if the Watford board do hijack his plans to keep the squad together.
