Westley: We frustrated them

Derby County caretaker boss Terry Westley praised his young Rams after they held in-form Watford to a 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road.

County finished the match with three teenagers with on the pitch; Giles Barnes and Lewin Nyatanga, both 17, and 18-year-old Lee Holmes.

'Our goal was coming in the first half and then in the second young Giles has got forward with power and pace from midfield,' Westley told the club's official site. “The young ones have had to come in and take on the mantle. “It is difficult for them because they are still learning, but they are learning while playing the game,' added Westley.

Westley felt the game plan of frustrating The Golden Boys in the early stages of the Championship clash worked. 'We knew we had to come and frustrate them a little bit but we also thought Kevin Lisbie could hurt them,' Westley continued. 'That was proved in the first half, when Kevin was very dangerous, and they changed their system at half-time (to 4-5-1) to cope with us,” continued Westley.

County caretaker boss concluded by acknowledging the attitude of his players: “The players on the pitch have given the supporters and the club every ounce they have got.'
