Watford No1 shirt still up for grabs

Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd has admitted to being two minds over whether to go for youth or experience between the sticks at Selhurst Park.

Rookie Scott Loach impressed on loan at Bradford last season and has continued to develop during pre-season but the Hornets gaffer is still undecided whether to play the youngster or opt for the aging legs of Estonia international Mart Poom on the opening day.

With last season`s first choice Richard Lee sidelined, Boothroyd told the Watford Observer "I`m changing my mind from day to day but by Friday night I will know where I am with them both."

He added "Loachy is fresh, has great distribution skills, is a great size and is young…Poom hasn`t played for a while and has his flaws but he`s experienced and has played international football".

Loach picked up the support of VitalWatford visitors in a recent fans vote with 46% of the vote urging Boothroyd to make him first choice whilst injury prone Poom only managed a mere 6%...

But it seems its still all up for grabs as the Hornets head for Palace.

It does worry me - the quotes in the W.O which elude to the fact that Boothroyd doesn't trust one of his three 'keepers! I would go with Loach. Poom is 'transfer listed' and injury-prone and unreliable. Give the young'un a go!

On saying that at Barnet Loach did not look at all in control of his 4 defenders and we were a shambles defensively...Poom might not talk but he is massive and has presense.

I'm a fan of Aidy, but he should not debate this in Public. It doesn't exactly exude confidence to the rest of the team. Make a decision and stick to iy. Come on you Golden Boys & God Help us!

I think keeper is one place you need experience... Play Poom Aidy... Get rid of Lee...
