No deal for Day at Watford

Watford will not be offering a contract to unattached goalkeeper Chris Day, according to the Hornets gaffer.

Aidy Boothroyd told the Watford Observer that the 33 year old former Crystal Palace, QPR, Oldham and Millwall stopper had only been short term cover despite starting in a couple of pre-season friendlies - papering over the cracks in the goalkeeping crisis during the summer.

Boothroyd said "I don`t intend to bring Chris in - he`s just here to help us out. The last thing I need is another keeper out injured. I just wanted to cover myself. Richard [Lee] is injured and I`m not sure how Scott [Loach] is going to do, although I do think a lot of him. [Mart] Poomy has had a couple of injuries too".

So all in all the Watford`s goalkeeping union doesn`t appear to be in great shape ahead of the new campaign (what price on a certain Alec Chamberlain being on the bench?) but one thing is clear…

There`ll be no long term Hornets return for Chris Day.

Good in a way, I feel sorry for Loach who has done well, but might still lose out to a transfer listed 'keeper tomorrow. A step in the right direction not to add to the old boys union.

"I'm not sure how Scott is going to do". Absolute nonsense. Come on Aidy, you can do better than that. Try motivating the players and they might respond.
