Have Watford waived Eagles windfall?

VitalWatford are just a little bit confused about a 'supposed` potential cash windfall to cash strapped Watford, all thanks to Chris Eagles` £1.25m switch to Burnley of all places.

It seems to be accepted as gospel that the Hornets had a '10% sell-on clause` written into Eagles` contract when he left the Watford Academy to Man Utd that would kick in should he be sold on from Old Trafford.

And let`s be honest, that £125k could well fund a move for Pars centre back Sol Bamba, whose impressed on trial! Just imagine.

But, hey, didn`t the Watford board wave goodbye to any future kickback from the sale of Eagles when they signed Danny Webber from Man Utd in November 2004?

A quick trawl of the official site`s ever so full news archive sadly suggests so…

The club announcement on the day Danny Webber signed (oh those were the days) read "The transfer is being financed by the waiving of potential payments under an agreement put in place when a Watford Academy player [Chris Eagles] moved to Old Trafford in 2000."

So it seems that the purchase of the now Sheffield United frontman may well have just cost the Hornets a new signing or 2 for the upcoming season!!!

Yes folks, the times are really that hard.
