Watford can't rely on kids - Aidy

Watford can't rely on kids - Aidy

After yet another abject performance and pre-season defeat to lower league opposition in Barnet, Aidy Boothroyd has stated the bleedin` obvious - youth is all well and good but you need a bit more!

Speaking to the official site after the 3-2 reversal at Underhill against an impressive Bees side, the Watford gaffer said "I need to look at what it we are going to need if we are to do well this year. We`ve got some very good young players, but that are not all ready yet, you can`t rely on kids".

The gaffer added, via the Watford Observer, "Theo`s [Robinson] got great energy and he`s still a boy, [Ross Jenkins] Jenks is still a young boy but a terrific player who will be a real asset for the club in years to come. Lewis Young, who scored again today (in the win at Tring Athletic), is another great asset that we`ve got, but you can`t rely on kids, and I`m not talking about kids. These are more embryos than kids, these are babies that need help."

Didn't see the game, but this is not useful from Aidy. He should be publicly backing his squad (except those he has given up on) but privately pushing the board hard for a little leeway. Doing his bidding in public smacks of desperation. The atmosphere in the dressing room must be awful at present and this will hardly help. Come on you Golden Boys!

Robinson was played out of position and looked completely out of sorts at Barnet whilst Bromby and Sadler at the back just look ill at ease with the ball at their feet. Hoskins came on and did look useful and should start alongside Ashikodi!!!!

Wasn't Ashikodi out with the stiffs at Tring? - A ground that I've actiually played on - in 1971/2 - I expect it hasn't changed much!

Yeah - that was amazing. Why send a striker who has hit a few good goals in pre-season away with the kids when he should be on the field at Barnet. Moses could be a good solution but AB seems reluctant to play him.
