Henderson's a Blade

After 29 goals in three years, Darius Henderson has been allowed to move onto pastures new after an up-and-down spell in Hertfordshire.

Kevin Blackwell has forked out the pricely sum of £2million for the big frontman who notched 13 last season. With James Beattie missing the first chunk of the campaign and Rob Hulse moving to Derby, Henderson will be the ideal man to lead the line for the Blades.

Cardiff City, Birmingham and Wolves were also all after Henderson who cost just 450k from Gillingham whilst Fulham bid £1.5million last season and a deal with Preston had been agreed by both clubs.

The worry is now for Watford who despite having £2million [plus performance related clauses] in the bank, where will the money be spent? Surely, hopefully on a new striker as we head into the campaign with just Priskin, Ashikodi and Hoskins...

Good luck in the future and many thanks Darius!

£2m (+) is good business I suppose, and we obviously need the money and to trim the wage bill, etc, etc, but Hendo will be sorely missed at the Vic. He always put in a decent shift, produced some great performances and made plenty of goals for others. You won't get the same workrate from Priskin that's for sure. He is a real old-fashioned centre forward and will do well for Sheffield Utd - I wish him all the best. However, let's look to the future and remember that Aidy built his first GHB team on the proceeds of selling Heidar Helguson to Fulham, so perhaps he can do it again. . . . Come on You Golden Boys!

I have this funny feeling that AB has someone up his sleeve as a striker. He has not risen to the fans demand for a new frontman and that kinda suggests that someone is being targeted. Lets just hope its more of a Frazier Campbell and NOT Trevor Benjamin.

jesus we have just spent alot of coin on a very very average player. but he seems a fit lad and he will get planty of service but competition upfront is fierce at the lane so he might have to sit on the bech quite abit. all in all im gutted with the signing.

Sad to see you go Hendo. For many fans at Watford you have been the understudy to the likes of King and later on Nathen, but for me you were the unsuung hero of the team. What you showed me when Ellington came to the club was first class. Your proformances to keep him sidelined were something I won't forget. You put up and didn't shut up... When we were in the prem and things weren't going for you the fans still chanted your name. This was because we saw a player who we could all see was doing everything he could to turn it around. For yourself and us fans.... Hope eerything goes well at Bramell lane and you get into the first team quickly.. Thanks for the memorys

nice one watford1881 that really good to know. sure he will get a great reception upon his return and a hat trick!! ha ha

Well said watford 18881, ultimately it's a shame to see him go but with our financial problems, letting a player go for four times what w paid for him is good business and this really does mark the beginning of a new era in terms of football to be played.

yeh but do you have the quality to compete now at this level? i think you could go back to your worrying ways if your arnt carefull and i dont want to see that to be honnest. i think watford are a good hard working club with an excellent manager.

Hi Bladesfor life, i think your comments are right, last season was poor, being pollite! Aidy's game is totally different to how Taylor played football, if we don't get much joy playing the passing game, i think we will be too light weight to revert back to our older style, to be fair, if aidy is not succesful with it, i think he could be gone by October!
