New Watford style needs work - Aidy

Aidy Boothroyd has revealed that Watford`s change in style to a passing game still needs work…despite a 'very good preseason` and a high intensity training camp in Austria.

The Hornets boss confirmed to the Watford Observer that change has been 'the key word` since the end of last season but added that the players are still coming to terms with a different set of requirements despite 'double sessions` of training.

Boothroyd said "The emphasis is on change and we`ve been doing plenty of work to ensure we are prepared for the season. It`s definitely a change in style - that`s the word."

He added "The players have embraced it but it does need work. You are not talking about one individual, you are talking about a squad of 20. They all have to understand their role in what is required and what is required to win."

Let's just hope it all comes together then in time for the away day at Palace.

Does this mean we are no longer the Man U of the Championship as Aidy once said. Are we now the Arsenal?... I'll be counting the passes at Borehamwood tonight.... If it works it'll be great. If not....... Doesn't bare thinkin' about.....

We are most unlikely to be the best team in the Championship this season, so we might just have to settle for style in the absence of results. Personally, I like a direct attacking style, eg Hornets teams of the 80's under GT, played a direct style, but with passion, purpose, power, pace & no little skill. They were labelled a long-ball team but were effective and great to watch. I hope Aidy doesn't go overboard with this new passing style and lose the baby along with the bathwater, being able to mix it up and battle are also very important qualities i this division; but clearly we must keep possession of the ball better than last season. Let's hope the experiment proves a success against the mighty Borehamwood this evening! .
