Final fling for Watford Golden oldies

It was a case of so near yet so far for the Watford Masters 9-squad as they lost out in the final of the ScrewFix Masters to West Ham at Wembley Arena on Saturday.

The Hornets veterans won their group stage thanks to an impressive 4-3 win over Tottenham - with Tommy Mooney and Iwan Roberts goals adding to a brace from Steve Butler - as well as a tight goalless draw with a Ray Parlour inspired Arsenal.

Unfortunately, despite a 3rd Steve Butler strike in as many games (the hottest streak he`s put together in a Hornets shirt?), the Watford Masters lost 3-1 to a strong Hammers squad in the Final and miss out on a place in the National Masters final at the NEC in Birmingham…

Watford Masters squad - Kevin Miller, Mark Williams, Craig Ramage, Nigel Gibbs, Steve Palmer, Andy Hessenthaler, Iwan Roberts, Steve Butler, Tommy Mooney.

I would have loved to see the Watford masters play... It would have been like being a 17 year old again... These players are the one's I remember wih great joy.. I wonder why Luther didn't play..... He would have been great on his zimmer frame....

Ah can you imagine - Luther and Nigel Callaghan (if he lost about 17 stone)...The days of knowing we'd score from a Cally corner are well gone I am afraid...Cally made Beckham look average in the 80s.

Too right Morris and luther up front... Cally crossing it in. Coming back from 4-nil down against Southampton only to beat them 7-1 at the Vic... Why can't football be like it used to be.... Ow ***** I thin I'm turning into my late grandad.... Funny how thing like this happern..... Wasn't the 70s-80s fab
