Shittu priced out of Ibrox move

Watford defender Danny Shittu has priced himself out of a £1.5m switch to Rangers and the chance to play Champions League football, according to Ibrox gaffer Walter Smith.

The Hornets man mountain centre back was expected to put pen to paper on a deal in Glasgow over the weekend but has failed to agree personal terms after Watford accepted an improved bid from the Scottish giants.

It is believed that Shittu wanted to double his salary to more than £15,000 a week and agree a 3 year deal but Walter Smith confirmed to the Scottish Herald >"We have not accepted his demands…"

Smith added "It has nothing to do with a gulf in wages between the Championship and the Clydesdale Bank Premier league. It was just a situation where he [Shittu] wanted more than we were prepared to pay".

And the former Scottish boss went on to confirm that Rangers won`t be pursuing Shittu even if the Nigerian defender lowers his wage expectations in the future, insisting "His agents have said that will not happen. There have been negotiations going on between the club and the player for a period of time and we have not managed to reach an agreement so it looks as if that one is finished".

So that's that then.

Sound like good news for us. If we are to do well this season we need to keep players like Danny. Someone else could buy him. (e.g prob Fulham) I would like to see him stay with us for another season at least. If we sold him we would waste the money on someone we didn't need anyway. Maybe another winger. Adiy likes them. The plain fact is that wfc can not afford to keep him, if he stays this season, we lose him for nothing next season, like the poll suggests, he will end up going to a mediocre premier outfit, but then i guess thats better than playing for a mediocre championship side lol

Just another average player thinking he's worth more than he is.

I don't think average players get in the Championship team of the season. Do they?

That's half the problem. Watford aren't as grand as we all seam to think.. We are a small. We don't have money. We don't have a ground we can be proud of. At the moment we do sell, sell, sell. It's about time Watford supporters start living in the real world....
