Watford's DeMerit to get his Wembley way

Watford may have missed out on a day trip to Wembley for the play-off final but Hornets defender Jay DeMerit will still play at the national stadium in May!

The strapping centre back has been called up into big Bob Bradley`s 22-man USA national pool squad, announced yesterday, to face England on May 28th.

DeMerit, who has been in and out of Aidy Boothroyd`s first eleven since the turn of the year despite being club captain, is 1 of 9 British-based Americans named on the official 'roster` for the Wembley showdown.

The other UK-based contingent in the American ranks are Tim Howard (Everton), Jonathon Spector (West Ham), Carlos Bocanegro, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson (all Fulham), Eddie Lewis, Benny Feilhaber (both Derby), DeMarcus Beasley (Rangers)

The USA head into the clash with Fabio Capello`s men on an unbeaten run that stretches back to October 2007 and high in confidence after a staggering 3-0 win over Poland in Krakow last month.

DeMerit is also likely to feature in the US squad to be named for forthcoming games against Spain and Argentina in June.

Nice to hear Jay is in the USA 22 man team. He is a good player & every inch a leader. Give him back his arm band.
