Hornets duo help defeat Italians

Watford duo Chris Eagles and Ashley Young helped the Football League X1 beat its Italian equivalents at Hull's KC Stadium.

Both Eagles and Young started for England under-21 coach Peter Taylor's team who beat the Italians 1-0 thanks to a goal that was set-up by Eagles. The on-loan Manchester star crossed from the wing, the cross was met by Izale McLeod of Milton Keynes Dons who hit the bar, and the ball fell to Dexter Blackstock of Southampton who put the ball in the back of the net.

Stevenage-born Young played the first half of the match and was replaced by Blackstock at half-time while Hemel Hempstead-born Eagles played the full ninety minutes. Eagles was voted man-of-the-match after the game and it capped a great few days for the winger who scored the winning goal against Brighton from fifty yards on Saturday.

Football League XI: Camp (Derby) (HT: Flinders (Barnsley)), Francis (Sheff United), Morgan (Nottm Forest), Walton (Leeds) (HT: Chambers (Northampton)), Tillen (Brentford) (HT: Wiseman (Hull City)), Eagles (Watford), Welsh (Hull City), Soares (Crystal Palace) (HT: Halford (Colchester 61)), Young (Watford) (HT: Blackstock (Southampton)), Payner (Hull City), Lita (Reading) (HT: MacLeod (Milton Keynes)
