Eustace open to captaincy

Eustace open to captaincy

Having turned down the Watford captaincy on debut, John Eustace now admits he would take up the offer a second time round.
The former Stoke City captain was offered the job against Wolves in the 3-0 league demolition but opted against it until he had earnt the respect of the other players.

'I didn't think it was the right thing to do when I joined because I wanted to show the fans I am a decent player.

'But if I'm given the opportunity again I'm sure I would take it.'

Under the leadership of Richard Lee, hardly anyone's choice of captain, the Hornets are unbeaten and Aidy may well be reluctant to re-instill Jay DeMerit.

Indeed, if my thinking is rational, DeMerit's very future at the club may be under scrutiny thanks to the form of new-boy Leigh Bromby who is hardly likely to sit on the bench, nor is Dan Shittu, who Aidy may well have upset once too often...
