Aidy missed McSheffrey

As VitalWatford were quick to reveal, Glory Hornet gaffer Aidy Boothroyd was hot to trot on the trail of Gary McSheffrey.

The pacey Birmingham winger-come-striker was subject to a loan bid from Sir Aidy during the January window which was turned down by 'Big 'Eck', Alex McCleish.

Boothroyd told the folks down at the Watford Observer "I tried to get Gary in the window but Birmingham needed him and still need him,"
>"I enquired about getting him on loan and then doing a deal at the end of the season."

And, with only wing wizard Jobi McAnuff on the books as a left-sided paceman at the time, 'Sheff' would have been a decent signing, certainly adding that extra bit of class than on offer from second-choice Lionel Ainsworth!

McSheffrey certainly knows his way out of this division having been promoted last season with Birmingham, where he notched 17 goals.

A renewed bid in the summer should McSheffrey still be out in the St Andrews wilderness?

He is a quality player at this level, so Ainsworth aint been that impressive? :)

He has shown some wonder touches in limited time on-loan. We signed him on the strength of 55 minutes playing time from two defeats. He seems to be naturally right-footed as at Ipswich he kept cutting in when he had the beating of David Wright. It is unfortunate he is so small because he doesn't really offer a lot defensively. If he didn't have Tommy Smith playing so well down the right, he'd be our first choice, but impressions down the left have been poor.

Surpose he will improve as he gets older.

Hopefully. He has something without question. He flicked the ball over his head and the defenders against Plymouth took it down and went past him. Other than that he has flattered to decieve.
