Space Race mission on Watford radar

Watford winger Tommy Smith wants space… and plenty of it - as the race for promotion hots up at the top of the Championship.

The in-form wideman, who has netted 3 times in the last 2 games, wants the Hornets to use their back to back wins against Wolves and Ipswich to kick on and open up an unassailable 'Watford Gap' between themselves and the chasing pack but insists the race for promotion will "go right down to the wire".

He told the Bucks Free Press "We need to get that gap between the play-offs and promotion. We put in a great run early on and were nine points clear and it would be nice to do that again."

The Hornets had surged clear in the early part of the season but form since has seen Aidy Boothroyd`s slip up and it`s now tight at the top with 5 points covering the top 5 positions.
